Stargazing

Fiona and I went to the university’s observatory this evening, and spent some time stargazing in the larger of the two domes. We saw Saturn and its rings, Jupiter and its Gallilean moons, and a great close-up of our own moon, including the uneven-edged terminator and also the edge of the moon itself, with visible mountain-peaks. We also saw plenty of impact craters, including Tycho.

It then clouded over quite quickly, so we spent some time in the planetarium. When the Sun passed by my left shoulder, I made a shadow-puppet on it.

It was a wonderful evening, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s put us in the mood to go and visit the Glasgow Science Centre, particularly to see their planetarium (and the Imax theatre). :)
