I wouldn't dish out MY compliments so quickly.

I am merely using WM5 because I have no choice and there are just no Mac versions out there.

However, from a UI and smartphone perspective, WM5 is clunky, choke-full of inconsistencies that will be sure to scare the living daylights out of any aesthetics-respecting Mac user...

I was just watching CSI: Miami when I saw this and google'ed it.

Looks like an interesting alternative to a conventional folding keyboard for the forthcoming PDA.

Why Mac OS X? Are we not beyond the one-size-fits-all idea?

I would prefer that a mobile device did not use primitive abstractions like files or discreet applications. I would prefer an intelligent modular, context sensitive UI without having the user do memory management tasks like starting and stoping application or loading and saving files. There is no logical reason to having to use these concepts.

I still believe that the interface from Apple's Newton (with it's data soup) was brilliant. Imagine an advanced implementation, directly programmable in a dynamic language, running on modern hardware with integrated networking abilities?

[...] Matt Gemmell discusses a hypothetical “Mac OS X Mobile” PDA operating system, comparing it to Windows Mobile 5, comes to a surprising conclusion: All in all, it’s actually amazing how much Windows Mobile gets right. We were talking about this in the office the other day, and aside from some confusing categorization of things (like the old Windows classic problem of “where do I find the settings for such-and-such?”, it’s a really tight and well-focused mobile operating system. I’ve never been one to praise Windows, but I’ve got to hand it to the Windows Mobile team - they’ve done a pretty great job creating an OS that’s easy enough to transition to from a desktop operating system, but which makes sense on a mobile device and doesn’t get in the way of what users want to do with a PDA.
