Blog redesign

It must be that time of the year again; I’ve redesigned the blog. In previous years, I invariably immediately reverted to the same tired old Kubrick-based theme, but I may even keep this one.

I was initially prompted by seeing Fraser’s blog using the DePo Clean Theme, which I liked a lot, so I took it and modified it comprehensively (also updating my blog to WordPress 2.3.1 in the process). Nothing should have changed from a navigation point of view, naturally.

Let me know if you spot any problems.

Looking good. I’d say it’s a keeper.

Looks good, except for one thing. The reflection in the upper left hand corner overlaps with the posted date, which makes it slightly difficult to read.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. I take your point re the posted date, Benjamin. Tonight I’ve enhanced the text-shadows (visible in Safari) on just the first occurrence of the Posted info on each page, reduced the opacity of the blueprints background another 5%, and brightened the colour on those first occurrences of Posted too. Hopefully the cumulative effect will make that text a bit clearer to read. :)

I really like it Matt, the layout is very clean. I agree with Benjamin about the reflection… I like the concept, but I’m not sure it really works. It is more readable in Safari, but it’s still a bit distracting. Your root page looks nice though :)

Hey Oliver, thanks for the compliments. I’ve made a change which seems better to me; the entire metadata section is now pushed downwards so that (1) the topmost post’s metadata doesn’t overlap the blueprints, and (2) the metadata is now visually aligned with the post’s content, making the titles stand out a bit more too. I think it’s a reasonable compromise, and hopefully it’ll work out. :)

I’ve also moved the category/archive/search-results titles along so none of them overlay the blueprints either, and I’ve tweaked the search-highlighting plugin a little. This is why I only do this once a year…

The blueprint logo looks great. You know if there’s a mac os x GUI theme that comes close to that?
