Hey, don't forget the humble Moleskine sketchbook as a great tool for sketching ideas down quickly. And if you own an iPhone UI Stencil it fits really well within the gridded sketchbook. Check out my blog post on the subject : http://blog.lyraspace.com/2010/02/12/using-your-moleskine-for-iphone-ui-design/

Good app.

Is there anything you do to address the iPhone 3.0 problem of the Call/Cancel Pop-up? The pop-up annoyed me enough to revert me to using the built in Phone Favorites bc a double click of the Home Button gets me to the Favorites and then I can call without a pop-up. Please help here? I would like to go back to using your app! : )

Secondly, although much of the design is intuitive and well thought out, I did not find the concept of Badges intuitive or explained well. Also, the great picture size increasing effect of turning off names is not readily apparent. It would be great if you made better use of the help to give options like turning off names and explaining "badges". Overall, the main problem is you have to work around the iPhone Settings for your App residing outside your app which makes the Settings less discoverable to a typical user considering not all apps even have Settings.

Hi Matt,
Top notch app, really stands out compared to other attempts available.

Just one thing, would it be possible to display the default wallpaper behind the favorites?

Nice work!

I really love your application and can't wait to see where you take it. Your design is very clean and a real pleasure to use. Also, as promised Matt I finished my writeup about the design and development of Fairway:

The more people we have sharing their iPhone tips and tricks the better the community will be. Thanks for continually contributing back!!!

Matt, how you've made such buttons (Options and Cancel) for overlay? Is they are graphically designed?

Some more comments now that I actually have an iPhone:
* I’d like to be able to set it to default to home-oriented tags instead of work-oriented ones. I’m not a fan of adding preferences, but for some of us the current behaviour is exactly wrong.
* There should be a different default icon for when kABPersonKindProperty == kABPersonKindOrganization. Address Book (Mac) and Contacts (iPhone) use an “office buildings” icon.
* It would be nice to be able to select a different picture to use. Motivation: I want to add a fave for my parents’ home number, while also having both of their mobile numbers. Ideally this would have a picture of their house, rather than one of their faces being repeated. Adding a separate address book card doesn’t make sense outside of Favorites, though. (Possibly adding a temporary card and deleting it after using it in Faves would work? A bit unintuitive, though.)

If it were possible to select a different picture, it would also be somewhat natural to have a gallery of different placeholder pictures… except, of course, you can’t add app-provided pictures to an image picker. Bah.
