I haven’t really posted about goings-on at university or in my personal life much lately, so hopefully this brief update will clear the backlog of miscellaneous news.
Coursework is going well enough, though the workload does seem rather relentless. DAS4 is a particular culprit, as is IR4 at the moment. It’ll all get done as always, but I look forward to having a little time to relax a bit.
CompSoc seems to be gathering steam at last, with our first social event scheduled for this evening (upstairs in Curler’s on Byres Rd, 6:30 pm onwards). It’s going to be a pub quiz with free beer and doughnuts for members, and a special guest round of questions written by, well, him. Oh, and this just in: a staff team will be there!
I got my parking permit for the university, so now the Mattmobile can typically be found in the staff car-park at Lilybank. Sweet. Road tax is paid up for another 6 months, and the web hosting is paid for another year. Must remember to get new brake-pads sometime too.
I was in an HCI4 lab the other week and I’d logged into my Linux account, which of course displayed my Kill Ron Poet desktop picture. Phil walked into the room behind me, unbeknownst to me, and walked right up to my machine. I only noticed him when he started laughing, and when I apologised he said:
Hey, as long as it's him.
(since Phil and Ron jointly taught PSD3 last year). The man is a legend.
On a non-work-related note, I’m feeling pretty good right now. After a slightly bumpy start to the semester, I’m very happy at the moment; more so than I can really remember being. Whatever might happen later on, right now it’s most definitely all good, and indeed very damn ace.
Several folk have remarked that I’ve been more chipper or such, and most have at least noticed the fact, as evidenced by a txt from Jill at the weekend:
I think for the first time in the year that I've known you, you're actually happy. Hurrah!
and a remark from Spoonie in the lab just now:
I think Matty-G's back on top, and that's always a good thing for the people of Glasgow.
I think they’re right on all counts. Apologies for the slightly cryptic nature of all this, but I don’t want to jinx things, and I think most of the folk who know me offline already have a fairly good idea what I’m on about in any case. Maybe I’ll elaborate a bit in a later post.
The background music to my life at the moment includes the ever-present Van Halen, Whatever by Oasis, the Alfie soundtrack, Friday Night by The Darkness, and naturally Dancin’ in the Moonlight by Thin Lizzy.
I think that just about covers it for the moment. Stay classy, San Diego.
